Supporting the Energy Transition Through Clean Repowering

There is “untapped” potential (on the scale of 250 GW) to site new clean generation or storage at the same point of interconnection as existing or retiring fossil fuel generators. RMI's clean repowering research identifies how these “clean repowering" projects can take advantage of specific Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) incentives and possibly streamlined interconnection processes.

Clean repowering projects are planes capable of weathering turbulence, and they should be deployed wherever feasible to help the energy transition stay on course.
